The questions have been many. Surprisingly many people have contacted me after my last post about my job. Why is that? You tell me. Maybe it’s partly because I haven’t really told this “story” before. Maybe it has something to do with that my work is very far from my internet persona. Who knows. No one, probably.

Anyways, I work in fulfillment, if anyone missed that the last time. This time, I will dig a little deeper into this. It seems like a lot of people don’t really know what fulfillment is about. I don’t blame you. It’s usually something that you only know once you’re: A) work with fulfillment yourself (like me), or B) Run your own e-commerce business.

What is fulfillment?

I bet that everyone would agree that delivery services is crucial for any e-commerce business. This is especially true in contemporary society, since the amount of competitors increases in pretty much all industries. Deliveries must be efficient, there is no other way. To ensure this, fulfillment services is what these businesses need.

When a company contacts us to take care of their fulfillment, we take their package from their hand and deliver it to the end-customer. That is pretty much what is happening in most cases. The company stores their products in our warehouse facilities. Our system is synchronized with their ordering system. When someone orders something, our staff picks it up and package it in a proper way. Then we send it away, but are still taking care of other aspects of the delivery. Safe, efficient deliveries, that’s what fulfillment is all about securing.

I’m looking for a company to run my fulfillment. What should I aim for?

As e-commerce becomes bigger and bigger every year, so does the supply of fulfillment companies. I’m sure most of these companies are serious and good at what they do. Having said that, I would recommend choosing a company that knows exactly what they are doing. It sounds a bit harsh, but I definitely think that experience is the thing to aim for here. Make sure that the company has an extensive experience from carrying out fulfillment services. In the best of worlds, the company you choose have also worked in a variety of industries with different companies.
